Preschool 2022-2023
Preschool: Age 3
This is such a fun age! Kids at this age have lots of questions and eagerness to help and learn more about the world around them! I like to keep a handful of materials on hand and rotate things out - add them to our learning shelves or coordinate it with our other themes. I just do what I think sounds fun! Children are such natural learners that “preschool” (or any grade for that manner) doesn’t need to be too formal. My approach has always been to have fun, nurture our relationship, and offer some intentional opportunities to learn through play. I let my kids take the lead, never push, and just do my best to support them. And if you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I certainly have a Montessori flare in my teaching/parenting. In fact, this year, my recently turned 3 year old and 5 year old will be going to a Montessori school just for a few hours each week. But, when they’re home — of course they will have a lot of play time and we will read lots — but we will also be pulling from:
Let’s Play School: We will be using the ABC Books, materials from My First Preschool, and we also have a handful of old digital and book club subscription materials we will pull from. It’s all prepped and ready to be re-used! Yay!
The Good and The Beautiful: We’re using Doodles Part 1 and we have everything under “For Littles” (except for the songs) in TGTB Library that we’ll pull from. I’ve used the dry erase mazes to keep my little guy busy while I work with my other kids.
The Mindful Heart: We are have Alphabet Avenue, Alphabet Rhymes and Poetry Power. We used these last year and will continue to get a lot of use out of them this year between my preschooler and Kindergartner to help us with pre-writing, pre-reading, and letter sounds and names. My oldest son’s favorite is Poetry Power and my littlest likes Alphabet Avenue a lot! Alphabet avenue is another fun one my three year old can play with while I work with my older kids.
Get Ready for The Code: We started using Explode the Code over the summer for my oldest son and loved it so much that I decided to add this package in for my preschooler. He wants books just like his big brother so this is perfect for him!
I also have an Amazon list of all our pre-school favorites. During the early elementary years, we get a lot of use out of the ABC sandpaper letters, moveable alphabet, and number board.
