Morning Handwriting Basket
This will be short and simple! Handwriting is usually the very first thing my kids work on each day. This basket has popped back and forth between our kitchen counter and dining room table (which is in the same room). And then the kids can work independently on one page a day while we get breakfast going. I am excited for this school year because all 4 of my kids will be in handwriting books (Ages 3-9) So, this makes it fun to all do together! In fact, when I was putting all our books in last night my three year old asked, “Where’s mine?” And it was so fun to show him his very own book like his older siblings this year. :)
Here are the details:
Basket: My mom gave me the one pictured years ago. But HERE is a link to a very similar one. I also like this one if you like a little bit darker basket.
Handwriting Books: We’ve used The Good and The Beautiful handwriting with my twins since they were in Level 1. Now they’re in level 4 which is their second cursive book. (If you’re looking to begin with cursive then start in Level 3.) We have LOVED this handwriting program! The twins learned cursive pretty much independently. I started my 5 year old in their doodle books and now he’s about half way through Level K and this year my pre-schooler will start the doodle books!
Pencils: Ticonderoga are the only brand I keep in the house and I keep a handful in here and make sure they always stay nice and sharp.
Sandpaper Letters: If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know I recommend these all of the time. It helps so much when young children can have something they can FEEL and TOUCH to form letters. I have all three sets: lowercase, uppercase, and cursive. The cursive ones are also great to help introduce learning to read in cursive.
That’s it! Soon I’ll try to share a post more on how we use our sandpaper letters. We use these all over our home, but they usually end up back in our kitchen because I use them most with sensory activities!
