Favorite Fall Books
Autumn is definitely my favorite season. Here in Utah, the weather in late September through the end of November is nearly perfect. Looking outside our back living room windows, we can see the dusting of red treetops beginning to work their way down the mountainsides. Every year I am really good to check out seasonal library books ahead of the crowds, but this year, I was a bit under the weather and just didn’t quite make it. So, I decided to add a few new fall books to our collection and round up my top 10 favorites for you guys.
The Leaf Thief: I added this to our collection this year and the kids absolutely love it. It’s a hilarious book about a squirrel who is convinced someone is stealing his leaves. I can tell it’s going to be one of those books we read over and over.
Seed by Seed: We found this treasure on Johnny Appleseed last year at our library and loved it so much I knew we needed it in our collection. In this story you learn all about John Chapman and five of his best lessons we can strive to live by — use what we have, share what we have, respect nature, try to make peace where there is war, and reaching our destinations by taking small steps.
Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn: The illustrations in this book are stunning and it is a beautiful way to usher in the cooler months.
The Scarecrow: This is another beautifully illustrated favorite of mine. When a baby crow lands on the scarecrow, they become friends and take care of one another though the ever changing seasons.
Fletcher and the Falling Leaves: This is the sweetest story about a little fox who is worried about his favorite tree loosing it’s leaves.
Leaves: This is a sweet book for babies and toddlers about a bear who experiences the magic of falling leaves as he goes into hibernation.
Sweep: Ever have a kid with a bad mood? This book opens up conversations about attitudes and emotional resilience. Ultimately, we get to choose how we respond when life doesn’t go quite the way we want.
Fall Leaves: Fall arrives, birds leave, leaves twist, and rain falls…this is an informative book with beautiful illustrations and visualizations.
There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves: It’s a classic and we own lots from this series. It’s been a favorite of my five year old for the last few years.
County Fair: There is something about fall that makes me want to read Little House on The Prairie stories. We have A Little House Picture Book Treasury and I like to crack it open this time of year. County Fair is included in this and is also a fall favorite of ours. Last year around this time we read Farmer Boy and it will forever be one of my favorite books.
