Autumn Room Refresh: Art + Books
The weather has shifted here and I have been anxious to cozy up with our favorite fall books and settle in with some fun seasonal art projects. These two things are my easy go-to’s for refreshing our homeschool room and creating an inviting learning space.
How cute did these pumpkin collages turn out? We used this free tutorial from Deep Space Sparkle. I love pulling from DSS because I can always find a good art project that will match everyone’s different skill levels. I probably don’t need to mention this, but another big favorite of ours is Art Kids Hub. I just LOVE little kid’s drawings…especially a five year old’s.
In almost 5 years of homeschooling - this is the first year I haven’t bought a new fall themed book for our home library. We’ve got a great little collection now and it’s so fun to return back to ones we love each year. I keep all our seasonal books together so it makes it really easy to rotate through out the year. You can read more about how I organize them on my post: Homeschool Book Organization.
You can shop all our favorite fall books here, but I’ll highlight a few of our most loved though…
The Leaf Thief: Hands down, this is my kids very favorite fall book. Admittedly, it’s probably mine too. It’s a hilarious book about a squirrel who is convinced someone is stealing his leaves. Turns out, it’s just the wind.
Seed by Seed: We found this treasure on Johnny Appleseed at our library and loved it so much I added it right to our collection. This story is about John Chapman and teaches us to use what we have, share what we have, respect nature, try to make peace where there is war, and to reach our individual destinations by taking small steps.
How Many Seeds In A Pumpkin? This year when we pulled our fall books out this was the first book my kid’s wanted to read and I think that’s pretty telling. This is a fun fact story that brings in math with skip counting and a little bit of science behind how pumpkin’s grow. It leaves the reader with a sweet message about how “small things have a lot going on inside of them.”
The Scarecrow: This is such a beautifully illustrated book. When a baby crow lands on the scarecrow, they become friends and take care of one another though the ever changing seasons. This is a perfect one to pair with Art Kid’s Hub.
I’d love to hear some of your favorite fall books or art projects! Let me know in the comments!
